I’m a retired teacher, having spent 27 years teaching elementary school in Wake and Johnston Counties. Teaching in NC is HARD. Our teachers give so much of themselves for little pay or respect. I’m worried for us if this doesn’t change. Since I can’t change their pay or work load, I wanted to find a way to make them feel celebrated and honored by families they serve.
This contest should be just the beginning. Make the effort to show your child’s (or your) teachers how much they are appreciated. Write notes, share praise with their administrators, give small tokens throughout the year, or even lobby your legislators to increase teacher pay. Unless you’ve done it, you won’t understand, but I promise they deserve it!
